Ok....so, is it just me, or does the new World Trade Center movie disturb anybody. Why is it that todays media has to make movies out of other peoples suffering. I know several people who had relatives in the WTC, and none of them are interested in going through that trama again. Why do we have to glorify tragic events in the media? So what are ya'll opinions??
I think that this new movie is a positive one, focusing on some of the heroes that came out of a terrible thing. I think I want to see it. (But I say that about a lot of movies, then never go!)

I think that it depends upon the reason why such movies are made. Take, for instance, "Flight 93". This movie, and the one made on A&E, showed a very accurate account of what happened on that plane that day. It showed the courageousness of gay Americans like Mark Bingham and Christian Americans like Todd Beamer. On any other day, these two men would have been seen as polar opposites. But on 9/11, whatever differences that these two men would have displayed in politics went away and they were united in trying to stop the plane from crashing into it's next target. Such movies like this can UNITE Americans in feeling good about themselves, showing that our differences make us STRONGER...a weapon that no religious terrorist can stand up against.
But as for movies like "Fahrenheit 9/11", who's director's hatred for ANYONE that is politically right of HIM (forget about "center") can be seen in all of his writings and LYING...such movies deserve to be put into the TRASH BIN! Moore even petitioned Hollywood to have his movie nominated for Best Picture Oscar! I thought that the message of his movie was that it was WRONG for Bush and other Republicans to use 9/11 to further their own selfishness.
And NO...I am NOT supporting Bush on ANYTHING here, nor am I supporting "censorship" of anyone critical of him. I am just speaking my mind and saying what's in my heart about all of this.
I believe Flight 93 is a wonderfully made film, and I intend to purchase it this coming paycheck. :)
There's been dozens of remakes about the Titanic, WW1, WW2...Vietnam...bad things are going to happen to good people. And, Hollywood is going to make their own take on it.
I believe this film is something that eventually needed to be done. And, if it didn't necessarily needed to be made--well...it would have been made, anyway.
In my opinion, Schindlers List hit the bad spot for me. That movie made me cry. (Same when Godzilla went back in the Ocean after he fought Mothra...)

For me seeing the horror on TV was quite enough. (People jumping for their lives from the upper floors, the final phone calls, the collapse... too intense). I knew one person on the lower floors of the WTC who survived and also one person who was in a surrounding building when the planes hit, and saw everything first hand. He escaped from the surrounding building before it too collapsed. I guess I don't want to graphically and in detail see the fall of the building and what happened to those inside. I would just like to remember them as they were. I guess we human beings like to be "lookie-loos", and are interested in blood, guts and gore. We have to see what is happening in detail. Like an accident on the freeway, everyone stops to look at what happened. Being curious by nature, many will want to know exactly what happened. Actually I found the educational channel documentaries on how the WTC was built, and what made it fall more interesting than watching someone's suffering and or pain. Also the reality of all the events are still too close in memory. Had this been 10 or 20 years after the event, then I would say ok, let's do this movie to remember what took place on that awful day. I agree David, I won't be going to see this movie either. A moment of silence would be just as effective.
I agree that any movie that depicts actual events can be a disturbing reminder to those who acually lived it. For those who only saw something like the collapse of the WTC on TV tend to want to see and hear more of the stories of the people that were there. I don't think it's blood and guts that we are interested in. (although some might be) Like it or not, a real life story, even one as disturbing as this one, is far more interesting to see. I hope that Hollywood didn't take too much literary license with this story.
Excellent point Amy. I have seen Schindler's List and Pearl Harbor and to the families of those that were directly affected by those events, I'm sure those movies were hard to see, but for the rest of us they were a reminder of our history and a sober reminder of the evil that exist in our world. Something we should all remember and strive to defeat, so that these events never happen again and those people who lost their lives and the families that lost loved ones never have to face this sort of pain again.
