Last week, my little niece Rebecca went up to Cincinnati to have her throat checked out. Her vocal cords look fine. Everything looks okay, so they want to have the operation on Sept. 14th. That is the GOOD news!
Now here's the BAD news:
To remove her trake so she can breathe and talk like a normal person, they will have to BREAK HER JAW and do facial reconstruction surgery. The doctors say that this will HAVE to be done because her lower jaw sits too far back and will have to be reset further forward in her face so her air passageway can be more open. Without this, the tiny passageway that she is breathing through within her throat can collapse and KILL her. And then, if that wasn't going to be hard enough on her...the doctors will have to stitch her CHIN to her chest for a WEEK until the cuts made on her throat is healed! She will be having a VERY hard time getting through this, so my mom has agreed to stay with her and her family within the hospital as long as she can afford to, which means I will have to be working a LOT of overtime to help pay for her to stay there with her grand-daughter.
She is such a FRAGILE little thing. I know that I wouldn't be able to get through what she will have to go through. She will need all of the prayers that she can get, as well as our whole family. I know that I will be praying for a miracle until all of this is OVER!
I will be praying for little Rebecca and your whole family, my brother.

Tomorrow is the operation. My mom has left with Rebecca and her family. The doctors say that she will be fortunate to be out of the hospital by Christmas. My mom says that she will stay with them as long as she can...even if it takes MONTHS! Please pray for all of them...
I will not be here at TSA much during this time. I will be spending most of this time in prayer, waiting by the phone for any updates. I will try to give all of you updates whenever I can.
The doctor inspected Rebecca's throat with an orthoscope and discovered that the IDIOTS at the UK Medical Center put her trake IN THE WRONG PART OF HER THROAT! They put it in on the TOP of her larynx, and not on the BOTTOM were it was SUPPOSED to have been. This made her susceptible to UNNECESSARY infections, which the doctors also discovered that she is going through RIGHT NOW! My sister says that she is planning to SUE UK for botching the job with her trake, and all of the infections that she NEED NOT had to have gone through!
The doctors have put the trake in the right spot, and she is sleeping soundly when I last heard from them. They say that she can come home in a few days, and that to return again in a MONTH to see how she is doing AND to set a new date for the operation to FINALLY take place to remove the trake FOR GOOD! They said that it will most likely to happen around the holidays in December...
WE ARE HOPPING MAD!!! People and churches have given us THOUSANDS so their expenses for living up there in Cincinnati would have been met...and now all of it is ON HOLD until a new date can be found for the operation MONTHS from now! My sister says that they are just going to have to keep the money in the bank until it really is time for the operation. We are ALL stressed out because of this setback.
