The Science of Sexual Orientation

A friend of ours told us about this last night.  Pretty interesting...

I actually saw the special they had on 60 minutes sometime back, they talked about this case.  A lot of studies like these I think show that there is a genetic predisposition but it is not necessarily a single gay gene.   Scientist currently think "gayification" (victor word) takes place during development while in the mother.  If I recall correctly the 60 minute special also said this could happen within the first two yrs of birth, but again there must be a genetic predisposition for it.

It is a bit of a scary thought that some day someone will come up with a cure for "gay".   God bless scientist, me being one and all, but there are somethings that just don't seem necessary to do.

What next? A "cure" for having red hair?

Or brown eyes?

Or dark skin?

THIS IS NUTS!

I can see why some people may want to be "cured" of things that make them feel "uncomfortable", but guess what? ALL of life can be "uncomfortable" if you have certain standards that are IMPOSSIBLE to live up to!

I sent this video link & the transcript of the show (available on CBS.com) to my old pastor, the one who was here when Alan first came out.  He is the reason we still have such a good relationship with Alan, but he believes homosexuality is a choice.  He STILL believes it!  He says that most research that says it may be genetic is done by gay scientists!!  Give me a break.

The thing that hurts the most about him is that he says he has done a lot of research (but hasn't read the things I gave him and he promised me he would read) but goes into it with his mind already made up!  He is not open to change.  He is supposed to be our good friend, but makes blanket statements about "them", when my son is one of "them"!!!  (And I'm glad he is, or I wouldn't have met all the wonderful people I've met!)

I don't think they're trying to determine factors contributing to being gay, so they can find a way to make a "cure." At this point they're just trying to determine what makes people gay, and that's all. Finding a "cure" would take much longer, and once developed, it couldn't be entirely effective. I'm not concerned or angry or anything.

But that is the problem.  When they find-out what is the reason for "gay" is they can take measures to try and change it.  It could be treated like ADD or some disorder that affects our way of thinking, not that I think being gay is a disorder.

but since it's largely an issue of hormones in utero that just makes it more likely... and they don't really know what else leads to it... I bet they involve themselves with "prevention" before they bother with a "cure" which would be much more difficult...

What makes a man "gay" is something that a scientist can't put under a microscope and "analyze"...

You have to look into my HEART & SOUL to see it.
