Can anyone here speak another language? I need help

How were you able to master basic grammar skills, without having to go to school (I don't have school $$$ to do this)?

This is driving me to the point of tears because everything I say in Swedish is absolutely impossible for a Swede to understand because the grammar is "horrible". :(

I have the same problem with my japanese. Whenever I'm trying to talk to an actual Japanese person, I end up having to just say things in English so they can tell me what I SHOULD have said in Japanese.

I'd say the best thing to do is just talk to people who speak the language, watch television/movies in the language, and buy a good textbook-- try a college book store; they are as likely as any to have what you'd need.

I cannot help you with Swedish; however, I may possibly help you with your question.

If you know anybody who speaks the language, have conversations with him/her. Read anything, and everything you can get your hands on. Like Chris said, watch TV shows in that language. Even if it means going to a library, and finding something in Swede.

I'm fairly fluent in Spanish--but I've been around Spanish-speaking people since the 7th grade. I wish I could help you out more...

*hugs*

Try books on tape, read it first in swedish, then listen to it a few times.  Break it up by chapter, read the chapter once going to the dictionary every time you don't know a word, then read it again and see if you remember all the vocab.  Then listen to it to get a sense of pronounciation, inflection etc.

It takes a lot of motivation but in my opinion its just as good as a course and doesn't cost nearly as much.  You can also pick a book that you've already read in english so that you aren't frustrated by not understanding everything and wanting to get to the end, because you already know how it ends.

Also, as I'm sure you know already, you could try a work exchange in Sweden, or going to university there for a semester or a year.  I did that in Germany, even though I could speak german before going I spoke it like a five-year old, so it really helps just hearing it all day long, eventually you start thinking in the language.

I speak French, a little bit of Chinese, and I can read Latin although I'm a bit rusty.  I still want to learn ancient Greek, Welsh and Syriac.

I want to tell you about a website  on this page  that I use every semester and it saves my life. I place my orders for essays, term papers, and even dissertations here. I know that they will meet deadlines and provide high-caliber work. Prices are extremely reasonable, especially if you buy in advance. The wonderful part is that you may order a paper at any hour of the day. So get in touch with them if you're sick of having insomnia before deadlines!
