Atlantis

Do any of you believe this was a Biblical city...? I don't remember if it says it in the Bible; however, in the Book of Mormon it makes references to whole cities taken up into Heaven, due to the goodness of the people.
And, in a couple of references Heaven is referred to as having streets of gold...no??

So, maybe Atlantis WAS a real city, with real inhabitants. Maybe it was Heaven on Earth for a short while?

Just some random thoughts.

Hmmm... I've never put much thought into Atlantis... I thought it was just a legend, because it was never found, you know? Sort of like El Dorado or the Fountain of Youth. Was Atlantis supposed to have streets of gold? I didn't know that. Anyway, interesting. I want to know what other people think.

I think you are refering to Revelation 21:18-21: And the building of the wall of it was of jasper: and THE CITY WAS PURE GOLD, like unto clear glass.  And the foundations of the wall of the city were garnished with all manner of precious stones. The first foundation was jasper; the second, sapphire; the third, a chalcedony; the fourth, an emerald; The fifth, sardonyx; the sixth, sardius; the seventh, chrysolite; the eighth, beryl; the ninth, a topaz; the tenth, a chrysoprasus; the eleventh, a jacinth; the twelfth, an amethyst.  And the twelve gates were twelve pearls; every several gate was of one pearl: and THE STREET OF THE CITY WAS PURE GOLD, as it were transparent glass.

Other than that, I can't seem to find any info that ties the two together.  If you do, let me know.  I'd be interested in reading it.

According to the History and National Geographic Channels, Atlantis was a morality tale authored by the Greek philosopher Plato, who used the destruction of a volcanic island in the Mediterranean Sea, and the small town that was on it. He said that the reason why the town was destroyed was because of pride, not very much different from the story of the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah. According to legend, the same Minoan people that lived in these sinful cities also lived on this island, too. Some believe that when the island went, which was its cultural capitol, the rest of the Minoan Empire went with it. So it is possible that God judged BOTH this island (Atlantis) and the cities of Sodom and her sisters for their wickedness and pride.

Just a guess. I need to do more research. I'll get back to you.
