I don't know... it was just a very, very strange movie that spoke to me so perfectly I'm not sure anyone else could see it the same way.
I know what you mean. I watched "Signs" starring Mel Gibson, expecting just another sci-fi/horror flick, and it turned out being a film that helped to show me that whatever goes wrong in my life, God has a plan and a purpose for it, even though I can't see through the tears I'm crying at the time to see it. It has been one of my most favorite films ever since!
I just remember reading someone's review/reaction to signs:
Sure, the aliens can find their way across the galaxy with no problems, but they require intricate crop circles to help them navigate around the big, scary Earth!
I don't know if that was actually relevant or not, since I didn't see the movie. But the concept made me smile.

finally saw "Crash" this past weekend. A very timely piece that makes one think about the prejudices in our own life. A must see!

Apparently there isn't a number. That's my all time favorite movie. :)
Drew Barrymore rocks!!

Susan, the first time I watched "On Golden Pond" I couldn't stop crying afterward! The relationship between Jane Fonda & Henry Fonda was too much like real life! As much as I love my dad, we still have what Teddy calls "a business relationship".

To me it's odd that you guys have such a strong reaction to DaVinci Code. I respect your right to have your opinion and I certainly don't expect you to agree with me but I really don't know what all the fuss is about. I read the book. I thoroughly enjoyed it and it made me think. It didn't make me throw away everything I believed. It's hard for me to believe that the Catholic Church and some Christians are so scared of this book and movie that they actually think it could have a detrimental effect. Who cares if Dan Brown makes up things? It's a work of FICTION! It's supposed to be made up. He doesn't advertise it as gospel truth. I think that the reaction of the church to this movie being one fear will do more damage than the actual movie will. What do we have to fear? My faith is just that - FAITH - it's not based on anything but my personal experience.
I watched Hostel this weekend. Everyone said it was horrible. I have seen much much worse movies than this one. I actually thought it was interesting - at least they finally came up with something different. Even if it was SICK AND WRONG!!! Boy, I sure don't have any burning desire to travel to Slovenkia (or whatever it was) in the near future!!!

THANK YOU.
In my church this week, the Rectress was preaching about something or the other, and brought up the topic of the Da Vinci Code. As best as I can remember it, here's what she said:
"...and I've been following the news on the recent novel and more recent film, 'The Da Vinci Code' as well. I was somewhat surprised by the stance the Vatican has taken, which is to call the movie and the book a Heresy. Now, as an Anglican, I must wonder at this: how a theological term has been applied to a work of fiction... which is by definition... not true."
People were laughing out loud in my extremely reverent Anglican church when she said this. I know I was.

But, even though I like scary, cut-em-up movies, I thought Hostel was over the top! It didn't stop me from watching it, but it was so gross. Of course, I also have Saw 2 in there waiting to be watched...

Yes, I know that the book is FICTION...but just like with "JFK" and "Titanic" there are some IDIOTS out there that will take this movie as being 100% true and that makes me want to SMACK THEM UPSIDE THE HEAD for thinking that it's real.
When "Jaws" came out, people stopped going to the beach because they just KNEW that a shark was going to eat them. The truth is that you are more likely to be struck by lightning that be eaten by a shark.
When "JFK" came out, some people thought that all of the "facts" within the movie was true. The truth was that Oswald could have gotten off those shots with perfect accuracy, that the "magic bullet" was NOT found in the pristine condition depicted, and that if the head of a person was shot from behind that it would have moved back and to the left just as it really did happen.
And when "Titanic" came out, some people actually asked Dr. Robert Ballard, the guy that first found the wreck of the great ship, if he was ever going back down there to try to find the "Heart of the Ocean" blue diamond necklace that was in the movie...and that thing wasn't even really on board! It never even really existed!
I just wish people would actually start using their BRAINS and READ, instead of believing everything that they see on TV!
Now if you will excuse me...I am going to go and try to figure out what happened to all of those WMDs went to after we invaded Iraq.
OK, I'm not a movie buff, but I have seen more lately than in the past.
Amen Susan. The deVinci Code was an awesome book. Very thought provoking and made you think. Like a lot of things that are clearly defined about Jesus' life, you would have to be open to the possibility, at least. However, it wouldn't change my faith at all. I am going to see the movie when it comes out on DVD.
Rent was a very good movie
We watched The Producers the other night and it was vey funny.
Hey David, have you watched the out takes yet? Make sure you pee first, cause you wouldn't want to have an accident! (:
Jeffery,
Don't get me started on JFK. I have seen almost every show, including the movie, about the assasination. I am not convinced that Oswald acted alone. I'm not saying it's not possible, just hard to accept.
One night while sitting around dinner table the question, "what is the first thing you want to ask God when you get to Heaven" came up. Mine and Alan's answer......."who shot JFK"
Is there anyone here that's going to go see "Lady in the Water"? I have seen the previews, and it looks to be VERY interesting. And with M. Night Shymalan at the wheel of it, then you KNOW that it will have a deep spiritual message buried within it.
I was SO disappointed in The Village that I've not been too interested in seeing Lady in the Water. You are right about Shymalan's spiritual meaning - I thought the Village was about controlling people through religious fear. No one else in my family thought that, though!
