RE: What are you reading?

Maybe incest is lumped together with occult activity :P

That was my closest guess as well. So weird. I did often have a creepy feeling as I read the stories, but they're creepy stories. I just always found it odd that they're lumped in the occult section. My friend Aaron says that one of the later books involves witches or something, but I couldn't see that one storyline affecting everything else by this author.

I just got done reading "The Purpose-Driven Life" by Rick Warren...and I LOVED IT! This has got to be one of the BEST Christian books EVER! I found it very faith-affirming as well as having a very positive effect upon how I now see my homosexuality. I see it now as a means to help reach other gay people who wonder about God and if He loves them and has a plan for their lives!

An absolute MUST READ!!!

My parents gave me PDL- I keep meaning to look into it.

They also gave me "Hind's Feet on High Places" which is another big one people say you should read. Has anyone read that one? I think it's like Pilgrim's Progress.

I'm currently reading "Digital Fortress" by Dan Brown.  It's pretty good.  The subject matter is not as interesting to me as the other two books by him I have read.  But it's still holding my interest.

This is a synopsis I copied a while back:

Hinds' Feet on High Places t

"The Lord God is my strength, and he will make my feet like hinds' feet, and he will make me walk upon mine high places." (Habakkuk 3:19, Psalm 18:33, II Samuel 22:34). "For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind." (II Timothy 1:7).

Hinds' Feet on High Places is one of Hannah Hurnard's best known and best loved books: a beautiful allegory dramatizing the yearning of God's children to be led to new heights of love, joy, and victory. This allegory depicts the life of an orphan named Much-Afraid, how she escapes from her Fearing relatives in the Valley of Humiliation, and how she soon finds solace with the Chief Shepherd in the High Places where "perfect love casteth out all fear."

Throughout this spectacular story, one finds that Much Afraid has three problems which hinder her work and cause her much secret distress as well as shame on her spiritual journey:

·        She has crooked feet.

·        She has a crooked mouth.

·        She is a member of the Fearings.

·

Fortunately, Much-Afraid is not alone on her journey; she is joined by two companions - Sorrow and Suffering. On her secret journey, Much-Afraid must overcome her tormenting fears as she passes through many dangers. However, unlike the Fearings, Much-Afraid loves the Chief Shepherd so much that she is willing to serve Him at all costs.

"Forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before. I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus." (Philippians 3:13-14).

The desire of Much-Afraid's heart is to live in the High Places away from her Fearing relatives where she would receive hinds' feet to climb the mountains. Hinds' feet were required for this amazing mountain trek, for no deer blemished or in any way imperfect could make this dangerous ascent without the proper equipment. Much-Afraid was determined to reach the High Places not to just receive hinds' feet but a new name as well!

"Fear not: for I have redeemed thee, I have called thee by thy name; thou art mine." (Isaiah 43:1) "And thou shalt be called by a new name, which the mouth of the Lord shall name." (Isaiah 6:2).

Unfortunately, Much-Afraid could not enter the Kingdom of Love as a member of the Fearing family, for in the Kingdom of Love, a flower of love must bloom in one's heart

"There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love. We love him, because he first loved us" (I John 4:18-19).

One morning, while eagerly waiting, Much-Afraid delightfully hears the Chief Shepherd's call to the High Places. The Chief Shepherd takes Much-Afraid to the foot of the mountains, while her special companions - Sorrow and Suffering - help her in difficult places while she still has her lame feet. Much-Afraid climbs and finally reaches the High Places where she loses her humiliating disfigurement and is made beautiful and receives the seed of love and a new name. Much-Afraid then returns to her valley of service upon being transformed by her union with the loving Shepherd.

I just got done with reading "Brokeback Mountain"...AND I NEED A TISSUE!

WHY didn't Ennis and Jack just throw all caution to the wind and jump the next bus trip to San Francisco? They would have been so happy together!

I am now beginning to read "Stranger at the Gate" by Mel White.

I started reading "Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil" this past weekend.  It's very interesting - I didn't realize it was a true story!  It's also fun to read after having just been in Savannah and recognizing the different places that the author talks about.

I'm now reading two books.  "In Cold Blood" by Truman Capote which is totally sucking me in even though I just barely started it and I keep falling asleep because I am so tired when I finally get a chance to read.  I'm also reading a book called "Haunted America".  I can't remember the authors names but they researched for like 22 years or something stories of hauntings in every state.  Even though I have experienced ghostly things myself I'm still skeptical but the stories are still fascinating and fun and SCARY!  I can only read that one during the day!

I finished "In Cold Blood" last night.  Capote is an amazing writer.  Watched the movie "Capote" on Friday too which was very good and cool to watch while reading the book.  I mean, I wasn't literally READING while I was watching.  But you know, in the same time period.

Today, a new book arrived in the mail for me - just in time!  It's called "Devil in the Whilte City: Murder, Magic, and Madness at the Fair that Changed America".  It came highly recommended to me by two separate people and I can't wait to read it.  It's a true story about a serial killer during the World's Fair in Chicago back in the late 1800's.  I'm excited to read it and I'll let you guys know how it is.

I actually am letting Jen read "The Devil in the White City" first and I am reading a book she just finished by Chuck Pahlaniuk called "Haunted".  He wrote "Fight Club" and although there is nothing very scary in the book at this point there seems to be a lot of foreshadowing and a very sick story that involves a swimming pool, the suck pump and wearing your trunks around your neck.  Yikes.  It's about a group of writers that go on a retreat.  I'll let you know how it turns out.
