told off at a street light!

So, I was shopping the other day and I was at a stop light and I noticed a man standing the in the center lane holding a sign that he needs money. He didn't look homeless to me. Not that I'm judging......anyway, my window was rolled down and he came up to me and asked me for money. I had just been shopping and there were bags in the backseat and I told him I don't have any money. I mean I had a credit card, but no cash. So when I told him I didn't have any money on me, he decided to tell me off! He reached out and touched my arm (pointing to my tattoos) and told me off for having tattoos on both my arms and told me off for bags in the backseat. He basically said I have money for tattoos and shopping, but I conveniently do not have any more money on me. I turned and looked at my boyfriend and he told me to raise up my window. Which I did. He asked nicely, but when I said no, he turns into a raving mad man. The light turned green and I drove off and didn't feel guilty at all. Is it me or when someones says no, just say thank you and move on?

Steve

What an idiot!  With that attitude, no one is going to be jumping up to help him!!!

I saw a lady today while at a stop light that was carrying her sad little homemade sign and walking up to people's car and waving a big ol' Pepsi paper cup at them.  Fortunately, she didn't make it back to me.

Usually, at least the ones I've seen, stay on the curb & wait for the drivers to signal them.  I gave some money recently to a man with no legs sitting in a wheelchair on the esplanade.  He had a basket on the end of a stick that he held out to the cars.  He had to roll over the rough ground to get close enough to me so the basket would reach my car.  He made me sad.  The lady today just made me mad.  And your guy makes me want to throttle him!!

If it were me, when he would have commented on the bags in the backseat, I would have simply replied with "I see you have two arms, two legs and all your senses about you.  So why don't you have a job so you can get some of your own bags and tattoos?" and then drove off.

Phil!!!

That's exactly the attitude I have.  Instead of money, I give them a phone number to the temporary agency that can give them a job.  I have them written down on 3x5 cards.  It's up to them whether or not to use it.  I did my part, that's all I can say.  I give money, itself, to homeless shelters, and charity organizations.  And food, and clothes.
