Someone had posted part of an article from The Advocate by Billy Porter, and after reading it, I posted the entire thing on my blog. I was so moved by the article that I did some research and found an email address for Billy Porter. In case you don't know who he is, he is a Broadway star! http://www.billyporter.com/ Anyway, I sent him this email:
Hi Billy,
I read your article in the current Advocate and wanted to tell you what an impact you had on me. My son came out a little over 2 years ago, and fortunately, God worked a quick miracle in my life, and within 6 months I was not only accepting of the person he was created to be, I had a heart for hurting gay people. I can't imagine how you felt when Joyce Meyer did that to you. When my son read your article, he said he would have walked out!
Your article was actually brought to my attention by someone who has a lot of problems with "the church". Unfortunately, this person does not have the strength of faith that you do, and instead of being motivated to speak out and tell those that hate that you will not let them take your God away, he seems to find fault with all Christians. I think the concept of accepting and welcoming Christians, and the concept of unconditional love, are beyond him. This young man was also disowned by his family, and seems unable to accept love from anyone else. It really saddens me.
But your article really touched me. I'm so glad that in spite of those people who hate in the name of religion, you have held tightly to your faith and are willing to stand up for it. I pray that more people find the strength that you have. Just know that this Christian is proud & honored to worship the same God that you worship!
Blessings,
Lisa Lett
Today I got this reply: Lisa,
Thank you for you kind words. I'm so glad to hear about you and your relationship with your son. God has also worked a miracle in my mother's life and I am so blessed to have her in it again. (her miracle wasn't so quick :) Anyway... Thanx for the shout out. And keep spreading the word.
Peace,
bp

Sorry for the late response. I think it is awesome that you are able to minister to others as you do. But then, I know from personal experience that you have a great heart to reach out to others!!!
