Lance Bass of 'N Sync Reveals He's Gay Jul 26, 10:37 AM EST
The Associated Press
Lance Bass, band member of 'N Sync, says he's gay and in a "very stable" relationship with a reality show star. Bass, who formed 'N Sync with Justin Timberlake, JC Chasez, Joey Fatone and Chris Kirkpatrick, tells People magazine that he didn't earlier disclose his sexuality because he didn't want to affect the group's popularity.
"I knew that I was in this popular band and I had four other guys' careers in my hand, and I knew that if I ever acted on it or even said (that I was gay), it would overpower everything," he tells the magazine.
'N Sync is known for a string of hits including "Bye Bye Bye" and "It's Gonna Be Me." The band went on hiatus in 2002. Bass has also found headlines for undertaking astronaut training and failing to raise money for a trip into space.
Bass says he wondered if his coming out could prompt "the end of 'N Sync." He explains, "So I had that weight on me of like, `Wow, if I ever let anyone know, it's bad.' So I just never did."
The singer says he's in a "very stable" relationship with 32-year-old actor Reichen Lehmkuhl, winner of season four of CBS' "Amazing Race."
Bass and Fatone, 29, are developing a sitcom pilot inspired by the screwball comedy "The Odd Couple," in which his character will be gay.
"The thing is, I'm not ashamed — that's the one thing I went to say," Bass says. "I don't think it's wrong, I'm not devastated going through this. I'm more liberated and happy than I've been my whole life. I'm just happy."
I hope he talks more about his stable relationship, if that is the case. I think it helps people see good examples of gay relationships and not the party circuit that every one thinks about, including my self.
I just may start leasing to N'sync music, don't get me wrong I have plenty of boy bands in my collection but no Nsync.
My little heart is going pitter patter!! HEHEHEHE!!
I believe it's cool that we're actually having more celebrities take the steps 'out of the closet.' And, what's more--Bass is actually a semi-positive role model for the gay community.
Unlike Rosie--as to where she admitted she's a lesbian, and has turned into something scary...very scary. An angry lesbian. Her TV show was the BEST!!!! She was happy, and full of joy...and now every picture I see of her--she seems so *bleh* all the time.
Anyway, go Lance go!!
Now if we could one of the Backstreet Boys to do the same....

Rosie is scary??? Well, I guess you have not seen her latest movie. She has a movie out on HBO about Rosies cruise. It is a cruise ship that is dedicated to gay families and their children. She rents out the whole cruise ship. It was really touching.
Oh, and as for Lance Bass.....its about dang time....everybody already knew!!
It's refreshing to see stars, musicians, high profile people, coming out, and being honest with them selves. Maybe they will inspire others and average people just like you and me to finally be honest with themselves. Be Happy and Gay
My question is, why is that even newsworthy? I've never heard a report that George Clooney is straight! Why is Lance Bass being gay worth even mentioning? It's who he is. So what?

I think this is totally true, but unfortunately it is not reality. We are not on the same playing field. I think when positive gay role models come out it is a good thing. It lets people know that gay people can be normal too, and not the sex-crazed drugged-up club people. It has certainly helped me a lot to meet people her, on gcn, and at a glbt affirming church because I had the same views on gay people that many people. Probably why it took me so long to come out, it is way too easy to hate your self.
It will be a great day when famous people don't have to come out of the closet.
I think everyone here should be a news story "In the headlines today, it has been confirmed Gay People can be just as boring as straight people!" LOL
Wait not that any here is boring, that came out wrong! LOL

Yah, gotta agree with Caffeinated here... we're not on the same playing field.
And I just looked up pictures because I never followed 'N Sync... but YAY! And he's cuter than the other ones!
I've seen Justin Timberlake in person because I went to see Regis and Kathee Lee with my parents on a trip to NYC, and he was the guest. Lord was he UGLY up close. And you have no idea how small those studios are until you're in one.
