I am about to become the latest member of the Wal-Mart family! I will be unloading the trucks and stocking the shelves. The job pays $6.20/hr. All I have to do is get a drug test tomorrow morning, which I KNOW that I'll pass, and they'll do a background check...and then I am HIRED. The guy that interviewed me said that I am a shoo-in for the job! WOO-HOO!
However, I have a little bad news with this good news:
The hours are from 4PM to 1AM. That means that I won't be here for our nightly talks in the chat room. Sorry. I hope that you guys can understand. But "Mama Bear" has to go to work!
That's a good job. I tried going for that exact same position at Wal-Mart once, but the amount of applications made it impossible to even get an interview. Great job Jeffrey! I know it will work out for you and in no time you'll be running Wal-Mart!

I'm happy for you, buddy! Wal-Mart is a good company to work for. I've done it myself, in the deli, for quite a while! Congratulations!

Either this week or the next. I'm not sure. But as soon as the tests come back in, I start my orientation training and then begin to work.
As for getting a family discount...I don't know...for you see...
(violin begins to play in the background)
I can't just have anyones doing anythin' that they want within da "FAMILY"...what with da FEDS a-watchin' us all the freakin' time, CAPEESH?
(pauses to take a bite of my spaghetti)
I mean...after the ordeal with VITO SOPRANO, and the job of having to WHACK dat fat fairy, I ain'ts so sure as to whether to let anymores of youse "HOMOS" into the ORGANIZATION...You knows what I mean?
(pauses to shoot the violin player)
Now go on...GET OUTTA HERE! I gotta go to my PSYCHIATRIST again...
Jeffrey, you should be a writer! You have a very vivid & weird imagination!! Seriously, you out to consider writing!
Yes, I second this suggestion...(as long as I'm in one of your books). Just think Jeffrey, you could hold a book signing session, your books can be turned into movies and you can write screenplays and sequels.
Start writing!

Thanks, guys! Maybe I will start a career as a writer. I have always loved to write and tell stories. When I was a kid, I once wrote for English class a story of how the Concorde crashed on an island with Count Dracula on it, taking off the passengers one by one. It was so popular that the teacher asked me to read it again to the class. And that is how I began my writing hobby.
Well, today was both my orientation AND my first day at work! I thought that I did very well. Tomorrow, they teach me how to clock in on the computers, train me in the backroom, give me and this other guy a locker to put our stuff in, finish up the paperwork on my W-4, and begin to show me the "ropes" of how the work is done.
It is turning out to be a great adventure!
As for you guys getting any kind of a discount...SORRY! that stuff is only available to immediate family members, like my mom.
Also, I will be getting Mondays and Thursdays off. So it will be on those days that I can come here and PARTY ALL THE TIME!
Orientation was great. I had to watch some videos. Attended a morning meeting. Filled out enough papers to give Edward Scissorhands carpal tunnel syndrome. But all in all, it was a good experience.
Today, I began my first day of REAL work and training. I will be unloading trucks in this STIFLING HEAT! But we can wear shorts if we want to. I hope that I won't pass out from it. Pray for me!
And thanks...for helping me out of the darkness of my past and into this wonderful new future and life! I love every single one of you!
I didn't come home until after 2 AM! It was VERY back-breaking work! But I think that I will do better tonight. I am sore and hurt all over. I have only had a few hours of sleep, but I will get more before going back to work. I will be paid a LOT over-time on this job. Every penny counts!
Do any of you guys know what is good to eat that will give me strength to do these long hours of work?
Jeffrey...about what weight are the boxes, and how much are you carrying them to and fro from the truck??? I don't know much about receiving in Wal-Mart stores.
I'm happy that you seem to be liking it.
All in all, if you want to eat cheap...well...first thing is first. Take a multi-vitamin. You can buy some rather inexpensive where you're at.
Get rid of the soda, and caffeine (in my opinion soda makes you MORE thristy, and that's why the soda people have soooo much money.) just drink like water, and juices, and gatorade, and you'd be pretty hydrated!
As for food....fruits. No junk food. Bananas, oranges, apples...whenever you're hungry...cram fruits and veggies down your throat! :) But, don't forget to chew! hehehe!
They have those shakes....the supplement shakes. Wal-Mart brand. I drink them in place of a meal, actually. It helps out with food cost.
Energy bars....just don't eat a lot of sugar..cuz that zaps away at your energy when it's gone...and you'll be feeling that. And, whatever you do..please do stay away from artificial energy pills, and drinks. They're horrid for your health, and become an addiction. Like yellow jackets, and no-doze, and Red Bull...
*just my thoughts*
Love ya bro! I'm proud of you. Darrel

Thanks for the advice! I will try some of these things. I am drinking plenty of water: I bring my own HUGE thermos jug full of ice water. As for carbs and protein, I am eating mashed potatoes, Spam and cheese sandwiches, and snack crackers. I will try the multi-vitamins when I get my first paycheck next week...I am a little low on funds right about now, so I am going to use that money to try these things.
Last night was a lot better! We had a LOT of people helping us in the backroom. We unloaded about two trucks worth of items in NO TIME! I am beginning to understand what items goes on what pallets in the backroom. Now all I need to learn is which pallet goes where in the store. This should only take a couple of more nights. Tonight, I take the LAST of my training on the computers (woo-hoo!) and I will be doing the unloading for the rest of the night. (Not all by myself though!) I am going to be doing some overtime tonight: my mom needs money to go to Cincinnati for Rebecca's operation in September and this extra pay will MOST DEFINITELY help out with the motel room and food expenses.
And then tomorrow, I will be getting my first day off!
I'll see you all tomorrow! Bye! Keep on praying...and I'll keep on praising!
Yup. Buy some new shoes. That's actually going to hurt a lot worse...because your feet have to break them in. Also, purchase some cheap insoles, and wear well-cushioned socks.
Also, to help the blisters heal...pop 'em, and spray Bactine on them. Or put neosporin...and cover them up with a band-aid!!
Does anybody know how to get rid of athletes feet??? I've used everything short of a foot amputation.
