Insomnia/Sleeping Meds

Just wondering if anybody else has been officially diagnosed by a doc with insomnia, or is on any type of sleeping aid??

If so, what is it, and does it help?

Thank you. I'm averaging 2-3 hours of sleep a night, now. I've tried everything under the sun to help me out; however, nothing is working.

Thank you all.
God bless!
Darrel

You are talking to the expert!!

I've bought a Sleep Number bed, have a Tempurpedic pillow, use a white noise machine, sleep in my own room because Teddy snores, have an extra air conditioner to keep the room really cool, and have recently bought Breathe Right strips (although I forget to use them.)  AND I take nightly sleep meds.

My doctor started me on Ambien a couple of years ago.  He prescribes 10 mg. & I used to take 1/3 of one a night.  I now take 1/2 each night.  I sleep better, but for me to sleep more than a couple of hours in a row is rare.  However, I do go back to sleep.   I used to wake up and be awake for hours!!  I've tried Ambien CR, but they don't really do more than the regular Ambien.  I've tried Lunesta, and again, it didn't do much more than Ambien, and left a TERRIBLE taste in my mouth ALL DAY the next day.

Recently the doctor added a blood pressure pill and I get a dull headache each night.  I use that as an excuse to take 1 Tylenol, and 1 Tylenol PM along with my 1/2 Ambien each night.  That seems to help a little.

Teddy & I are trying to lose weight so hopefully that will help.  I blame my problems on my Fattitude!

I pray myself to sleep a lot of the times.  I quote Psalm 23 in my mind.  I've even tried this thing I read once where you imagine yourself painting giant numbers starting at 100 and working backwards.  The problem with that is that I have such a vivid imagination that I would always come up with something to distract me.  Like an imaginary cramp while holding my imaginary paint brush!

So, my solution?  Drugs.  And prayer.

Hope that helps!!

Oh, now now mamalisa- don't forget these are PUBLIC message boards

I used to have problems sleeping because I would have extremely terrifying visions of ghosts every night-- I really believed them to be real until one night I called a friend and he just simply said "It's your imagination." Somehow that had never occurred to me, and the hallucinations stopped once I claimed them for what they were- just my imagination.

...I know that's not the kind of trouble you're having though. Occasionally I do have problems sleeping, but it's such a psychological battle for me-- I worry so much about not being able to sleep, that I can't sleep. What helps for me is to turn all the clocks around (so I can't stress out about how LATE it is when I'm not sleeping) and sometimes watching tv helps. I set the volume really low- just a murmur- and dim the "picture" setting until it's just vague shadows of what's going on. I kind of understand what I'm watching, but it doesn't interest me enough but just to stop me from worrying about falling asleep. Then I'm asleep and it's all over.

Then of course there's the old song:

"If you're worried and you can't sleep,
just count your blessings in stead of sheep-
and you'll fall asleep counting your blessings."

I like that, too.

I have often went to sleep just praying, or listening to the most BORING of preachers on the radio, or reading my bible. I have also the New Testament on tape that I sometimes nod off listening to.

But I believe that the reason why none of you can get to sleep at night is because your CONSCIENCES are getting to you...

So just go ahead and CONFESS to the plain, sinful and ugly TRUTH...

YOU were the ones that ATE UP all of my yummy CHOCOLATE!

Well, hell.  They are really cute smiley faces.  This one's eating a chocolate Easter bunny and has chocolate all over his face!
