I think of how beautiful the church looks after the Holy Week services (stripping of the chancel, cross draped in black) full of Easter lilies and flowers.  I think of getting together with the family for lunch.  (Not going to happen this year, though )  And I think of VICTORY over death for each of us!!

I just came back from the Maundy Thursday service at my church- it always makes me want to cry.

It's just soooooo sad when they strip the altar and wash it, and take all the flowers and candles out. Our church makes a BIG deal out of it- even to the point of dimming the lights to almost blackout state. The organist, Dr. Marilyn Keiser (professor at IU school of Music) plays a really SAD piece while all of this goes on and people just sit in silence.

I don't know. It just really hurts me somehow to see our church like that-- it's almost like we're "closing up shop." It just sort of spreads contagiously. There's this sad, oppressive feeling, then someone sniffs, and you look around and someone else has tears in her eyes, suddenly lots of people are crying. I never feel Christ's agony as much as I do on Maundy Thursday. I guess that's why.

When I think of Easter, I think about the day in between of Jesus' death and resurrection.  He died on a Friday and came back Sunday, but in between was Saturday which must have seemed like a 100 years just waiting for Sunday to come around and see Him again.  I mean have you ever had to wait for something that wasn't really to far off, but yet time seemed to slow down to the point of being still?  I can only imagine how the apostles endured that waiting period.

I guess it would have seemed like a hundred years, but weren't the disciples clueless that there was actually going to BE a resurrection? I think as hard as it would be to wait for Sunday knowing Jesus would be resurrected, it would be even harder to live in the situation not knowing that he'd ever come back... In one of the gospels the apostles just give up and go back to being fishermen. I think that's just heartbreaking.

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank You for the most wonderful gift that You have ever given to us...Your Son Jesus, and what He did for us this Good Friday upon that cross. By Him doing this, we are now FREE from both the penalty and the power of sin. We can now live the lives that You want us to live...Lives that are living examples of Christ and His love. By Your grace, we can now enter a relationship with You. We can finally behold You, now and forever! And when Christ arose from the grave, He arose to give us YOUR righteousness that heals our souls delivers us from this evil world's influences. THERE IS NO ONE ELSE THAT CAN DO THIS! You have done this through this most precious GIFT...all that we sinners need to now is just RECEIVE HIM AS LORD OF OUR LIVES, and to TURN AWAY FROM OUR SINS. Nothing else can, nor needs, to be done for us!

THANK YOU, GOD!!!

For in Your blessed Son's name, I pray...AMEN! AND AMEN!!!

HAPPY EASTER EVERYONE!!!

Jeffrey
