..because I'm tired of trying

Once more, the infamous Phil ritual

He meets nice gay couple

Who speak Swedish

He talks with them for a good 30 mins

I got their email

It's bogus

I am sick and tired of trying to make local gay friends.  I even failed on GCN to make local gay friends (a few there told me they never want to hear from me again!).  What is wrong with me?  I cannot make a single gay friend in DC, not at all, not even Christian ones, EVER!! But no problem with anyone else!

I sometimes think this is God telling me to get out of gaydom.

to be bluntly honest

Phil

I think that one of the biggest problems that the gay communities of the whole world have is this "snooty-ness" that some gay people have when they come across gays like us...the ones that are "real".

"Real" meaning trying to be ourselves, instead of trying to be like the guys on the covers of OUT magazine. We care more about Christ than we do about fashion. We care more about the old lady in our Sunday School class than we do about what was on "The L-word" last night. We care more about being a "family man" than we are about being an "ubersexual" (whatever the heck THAT is).

We don't cross every "t", or dotting every "i", just so we can "impress" those that are straight because we think that acting like that is going to "win them over" and make them more tolerant to us gays...The truth is that I would rather live next door to an Archie Bunker-type, than MOST of my own fellow glbtq people!

Especially when they want me to become something that I'm NOT...

Don't you DARE change, Phil!!! I tried that and I almost went NUTS! If you were straight, and you found the same kind of stuck-up and self-righteous people within them...would you become gay?

The only thing that needs to change in your life, Phil...is the places you go to to try to find other gay friends.

THEY are the ones who need to change, and not YOU!

I agree with Jeffrey.  Phil, I don't think God is telling you to be something that you are not!  He created you just as you are and He loves you just as you are!  And, of course, we are all MAD about you!!

Forgive me if I'm mistaken, but wasn't it you that talked about a guy from your church?  Took you to a restaurant by a gay bar?  What about him?

Still see him at church but he's always talking to several different guys each time, like Scott one Sunday or Jimmy the next Sunday or.. doesn't even talk to a girl at all!

Not sure what to make of him but very interesting indeed.. and probably a better chance than the gay community at large (thanx Jeffrey - fear not, change is so not going to happen, I'm above this [goth talk hehe]!)

Phil, If I go to Gallaudet University this fall, I definitely will go and meet you! I would. We can hang out. I know it would not be same because I'm deaf, but I would so love to know you though. You are so cool. Praying that you will make more friends.

hello Phil,

I know what you are going through, I usually have a hard time making friends (at work all the time, shy around new people).  When I first came out I tried using various sites to find gay friends and I was very disappointed but after sometime I did meet a great couple.  Don't loose hope, there great people out there just like ME! Hahaha hey if you don't give your self a pat the back you may go without one for along time.  I will be sure to keep you in my prayers.

take care and God bless

I did have the strangest compliment via someone from gaydar the other day: I was told that I am "the most colorful guy he's ever met" which probably is why I can't make local gay friends: here in DC anyone who's "colorful" will probably be a bit more noticed than their gay friend, and in DC it's all about how you can decorate my life of course

So all of you need to move here.  Granted I might have you try on various goth boots for me.

Phil
