I can't believe that you guys are going to stay there and have a "hurricane party"! I will MOST DEFINITELY be praying for all of you. If the power goes out, remember to have the generator running in the garage, with a window open to prevent carbon monoxide poisoning. DO NOT RUN IT IN THE HOUSE! Be careful with candles and oil lamps (the same rule of the generator applies to the lamps). If your house has a chimney, duct tape a couple of trash bags over the top. The winds will blow water into every opening, no matter how small, in your house, so get ready to use a LOT of towels and buckets. Make sure that your house is secure after the storm: looters will be out looking for anything to steal. If one comes to you house, DON'T BE A HERO...just let him have whatever he wants. You guys are more important than anything material. If you guys have the time, go to the pharmacy and stock up on a few weeks of your prescription medications: you don't know how bad it will get and the pharmacies could be maxed out during that time. If flooding occurs, get the roof as fast as you can: there will be everything from snakes to human sewage in that water, so NO "SWIMMING". If you have a cut, keep it bandaged and dry: most injuries that happen in the storm are from infected cuts from broken glass.
I am sorry if I sound like a "worry-wort". But I am just trying to help you guys out the only way I can. You guys are my best friends and I don't know what I would do if something bad should happen to you. I have already lost my beloved Raleigh, and this time of year makes me remember how I lost my daddy. Personally, what I think that you guys are doing is STUPID staying there. Take care and God bless you. I will pray for you right now...
Dear Lord, Please send every angel to look after my friends as this terrible storm comes over them. Don't let anything bad happen to them. Take care of Mammaw and make sure that the place where she's at is safe. I don't know why You are putting us through all of these "storms" that have happened this summer; they seem to be happening one after another this year. But I know that You will get us all through this one, too. Calm every fear and worry. Let the Holy Spirit, and not booze, give everyone the peace to get them through this hurricane. You come in clouds of great darkness, just as in bright sunlight. Let Your presence be felt throughout the great state of Texas. For in Christ's blessed name, I pray. Amen.
You are so sweet. But you don't need to worry about us. Besides the fact that Teddy is a Master Electrician, he already has the generator wired into the panel, and the generator sits on the patio. We've already stocked up on everything we need, including prescriptions & toilet paper!! We are about 90 miles from the coast so we will get a lot of rain & wind, but nothing we can't handle. We boarded up the most exposed windows and moved all the patio furniture & decorations inside the garage. We are not in an evacuation area so there is no need to leave. We will be fine. Maybe inconvenienced if the power goes out...
Thank you for worrying so much about us. If we lose power, we won't be able to post, but someone just told me that text messaging should still work. (I guess that depends on the cell phone towers, though.) But if you want me to update you later, send me your cell phone number via private message & I'll text you as we go through the day. The winds should start picking up within the next hour or so, and landfall of the eye of the storm is expected about midnight or 1:00am. By tomorrow afternoon, things should be greatly improved.
I love you all!

For us, this has been a pretty boring day. We've all napped and eaten well. It's 3:30, and it is finally starting to sprinkle. Galveston, south of us, started getting water over the seawall this morning. Now all those coastal cities have water in their streets. However, it's still fairly nice weather! For us here, the wind blows hard for a few minutes, then it gets still & hot.
So, for now, nothing much to report! Thankfully!!

Bored. Bored. Bored. We just keep watching and waiting. The little tiny bit of rain we had earlier stopped. We have occasional wind gusts, but so far, that's it.
Oh, and Riley bit me! Alan & Korey are here with their dog, Ripper, who antagonizes Riley, and she tried to bite Ripper but got me instead. Darn, that little devil has a mean bite!! But she was sorry. She crawled up near my face and looked at me with sweet eyes. I think I heard Ripper snicker.

8:15pm and we are still waiting. The sky was incredibly gorgeous early at sunset. Alan took some pictures so I'll post them in a few days. I'm getting really anxious! I'm ready for this to be over!!!

2:21am. We still have power. I haven't been able to sleep at all. Korey & Amy are out, but Alan, Teddy & me are wide awake. Teddy & Alan are standing on the back porch watching the storm. We've only had a small amount of rain, but the wind is crazy. Somewhere behind us, the sky will flash red, then blue, then we hear a noise that sounds like someone moving furniture. Teddy said it's the electrical lines blowing together & arcing as they move apart. This is such a long night.
