Morning!  Happy 28th Anniversary to me & Teddy!!  We have a romantic day of picking up the yard, putting up plywood, making sure everything's up off the floor, etc.  How sweet is that?

I'm staying home to avoid massive traffic coming home.  Teddy's gone to the office for a short time, then back here to get ready for Ike.  Amy's coming to join us for the weekend.  Not sure yet about the boys.

All my siblings & their families live south of Houston (my youngest niece is in Corpus Christi) so please pray for their safety.

Here is the latest.

Ike is heading right for us.  Actually, it's predicted to make landfall just south of Galveston, which means we will get LOTS of rain & wind.  The coastal areas are being evacuated because they are expecting a storm surge of 13 - 19 feet.  Some of the gas stations near us were already out of gas last night, but may have had a fuel truck since then.  Grocery stores are busy, as was the liquor store!!  But I found some really cute Halloween decorations at Big Lots!!

The kids are coming here.  We have plenty of food & booze (notice a theme here?) and Teddy has a generator we can run at night so we can run a small air conditioner for sleeping.  If we lose power, Teddy will be cooking a lot, because our freezers are packed!  (Not because of the storm, just because we have a lot of food on hand!)  But he won't be able to cook if the yard is flooded, so I stocked up on peanut butter & bread.

Mammaws is staying at her apartments.  We worried about getting flooded in here and her needing medical attention.  Her apartment is very protected (as in she has a lovely view of a brick wall & the covered parking area).  If there is a problem, they will move the residents upstairs & take care of them.  Plus, she is right across the street from a fire station, so she should be well taken care of.

My mom is in an Alzheimer's unit in the south part of town.  They may be evacuated further inland.  Please pray for all such patients, as moving them will be very stressful on all involved.

The mayor of Houston has asked all employers to close tomorrow.  Traffic is slow but still moving on the outbound lanes.  Both the church where I work, and the one we belong to (currently, but probably not for long) have already sent out emails saying services will be sketchy at best on Sunday.  Both are planning to still have services, but predict they will not have power.  That means either worshiping with no air, or in limited generator-powered lighting.  We will most likely just stay home.

We'll try to keep you posted as long as we can.  Please pray for all of Texas!  You know, God has sent this storm because of all the sinners in this part of the world!  (Hopefully, you know I'm kidding!)
