Let's talk politics

There has never been an election where I have been this confused.  If I had to vote today, I'm afraid I just wouldn't vote.  That's not a good attitude.  So, let's have a discussion.

I think we all know where each candidate stands on the same sex marriage issue.  OUTSIDE of that issue - pretending that they are on level ground on that issue - who would you vote for & why.  I'm really interested in the "why".

Remember, this is not a thread about same sex marriage or GLBT issues!

I'll share mine!  If it weren't for the gay rights issue, my decision would be easy:  McCain!  But since McCain comes across as anti-gay, it makes it hard to vote for him.

I will still probably vote for McCain anyway...

I am not going to vote for either one of them because whichever one wins the office, the crazies and nutjobs within that party wind up thinking that they are going to have more power over the other side, and that they can just call up the Oval Office at any time, and the prez will drop everything and ignore all other voices JUST to listen to THEM.

Remember how Jesse Jackson was going to "castrate that n-----" Obama if he doesn't shut up about how so many black men are negating their parental responsibilities to their unwed children? I guess Obama hit a little too close to home with that one, considering how Jackson himself fathered a child with his secretary...

...OOPS! I meant to say "how he tried to get black people a bigger say in Washington by doing his own efforts to enlarge the Afro-American community."

If Obama and McCain BOTH don't start telling these wackos from BOTH Hollywood and America's "Biible Belt" to get out of their parties and take their kooky followers with them, then people like me will be staying away from the polls in DROVES!

There are two big reasons why I will vote for Obama and not McCain.

1. Research funding. The republican party is always very stingy on money for research and McCain has not said anything to make me think otherwise. For personal reasons it is obvious I would like to have a job when I graduate and things are not looking very good. You can't have world class discoveries with institutions suffering for money. The Unites states has had the upper hand in new discoveries but many other countries have been changing and we are now competing with countries like China and Japan with outstanding institutions and funding.

2. Energy and natural resources. Drilling for oil in alaska was stopped because it posed a high risk for loosing wild life and natural ecosystems, why was it a problem yrs back but ok today? the answer is that it is not, in fact they are worse. McCain has shown very little support for a move away from oil and col. The technology is out there but companies have to have the incentives to change.

And if you don't have a better reason for voting either way then make it about upholding the constitution for every one. Its not about gay and marriage, its about basic human rights for everyone.

Love ya all my BLUE and RED peps.

PS: Has any one noticed how when there are more red states we go to war and accumulate record dept but when there are more blue states the word surplus comes up. It may be the scientist in me talking but that is a very striking correlation. LOL biggrinbiggrinbiggrinbiggrinbiggrinbiggrinbiggrinbiggrinbiggrin

Oh yeah reasons 3

3. Education. McCain wants to give parents the option in where their kids should go to school BUT, and its a big one, if every single parent was to do the best for their kid then all the kids in the city would be in a single school and that is not only physically impossible but also unrealistic. If there is a problem with public schools then fix public schools and stop passing the burden of educating people to someone else. Obama is talking more about teachers, recruting them and making them better. He is also talking about a pay increase for teachers which I think they need, part of the reason why there is a need for teachers not enough pay.

I'm supporting Obama but ONLY to "discipline" my Republican Party...

The past eight LONG years have been a DISASTER for the GOP:

Robert Foley, they congressman from Florida, caught sending lurid and overtly sexual emails to underage workers in his office.

Karl Rove, the guy that ran Bush's campaign, being investigated for...just about EVERYTHING that went wrong in the administration.

Rudy Guliani, constantly reminding everyone, over and aver again, during his campaign that he was the mayor of New York on 9/11...as well as accepting Pat Robertson's support AFTER both Pat and Jerry Falwell blamed the attacks on gays and wiccans and politicians and Supreme Court judges sympathetic to them...one of the biggest in the GOP being Guliani, himself.

Dick Cheney, "outing" a CIA operative just because her husband criticized the war...a war that Cheney PROMISED that would have been won with just a percentage of the soldiers that were in the first Gulf War...which Cheney was the SecDef of to Bush, Sr.

Fox News...claiming to be "fair and balanced" when it comes to asking W. the "tough" questions hires one of the network anchors to be Bush's press secretary.

And then there's Bush himself...WORST PRESIDENT EVER!!! (OH, NO! I FORGOT THAT HE'S GOT HOMELAND SECURITY WATCHING OUT FOR TALK LIKE MINE ON THE NET...INSTEAD OF LOOKING FOR PLANS OF AL-QAIDA'S NEXT ATTACK! I'LL BE LOCKED UP IN GUANTANAMO FOR LIFE!)

My party has gotten "The Big Head", wrapping themselves up in the torn flag that the NY fireman rose over Ground Zero that day, calling anyone an "un-American" if they question anything that they do. The only hope for them is to have their butts kicked in EVERY election that's up this year. Only after that will they finally see the light, throw out the homophobic "Religios Right" people, realize that not every Muslim in the world is a "splinter cell" operative, and sew Ann Coulter's big mouth shut.
