Attacked at work

I was mopping the worker's lounge the other morning when the other guys on their break started flipping rubber bands at each other. One of them was aimed at me, but missed. I picked it up and flipped it on another worker, who was joking with both me and the others. He told me that if I did it again, he would "give me the hottest shower that I'd ever had". Of course, I thought that he was kidding and I flipped him with the rubber band again.

That was when he threw his SCALDING HOT cup of coffee right into my FACE!!! crying.gif

It burned me! I had to tear my shirt off so it would stop burning me. Later, the other maintenance worker came into the lounge to clean up the coffee found that IT WAS STILL STEAMING on the floor! It was THAT HOT!!! furious.gif

I complained to the manager (crying my eyes out from the pain and shock at what happened) about what happened. He said that there would be an investigation into what happened. Naturally, I thought that the NUT that did this to me would be fired since VIOLENT ACTS against other workers is cause for IMMEDIATE TERMINATION...

Guess what? HE IS STILL WORKING!!! hmm.gif

When I went to THE BOSS about this, he said that I would have to wait until the "investigation" was over before he could fire anyone. And then he had to GALL to say that because the other guy "warned" me about flipping him with the rubber band, that I had "asked for it"!!! Of course, he said that though what was done to me was "extreme"...I shouldn't have been "playing around" when I was supposed to be working!

Translation: The crazy jerk is going to get off SCOTT FREE, while I, the VICTIM of his crime (and THAT is EXACTLY what it was: assault in the first degree) will be punished for "fooling around on the job"...which is what HE was doing ALSO!!! weirdface.gif

So...if I go to the courts to SUE, do I have a case?
confused

Go to the HR of your company, and then the police. What he did to you was a crime. It was assault. File it now.

Did you have to seek medical treatment, do you have scars, burns that can be documented by photos... IF SO... then I agree with PHIL... go to the POLICE... GO to the police first before HR.... and file assault charges... because if you think this might go to court... YOU will fair far better if you were the first to file the Assault charges and if the injuries can be documented by photography.

Jerry

I don't have any scars...THANK GOD! But I did tell my manager that what was done to me was a crime. He just said to let the investigation handle it. I am VERY doubtful that they will. If nothing is done, THEN I will not only complain to HR, but I will also take my manager, who is a complete JERK, to court and file charges against him.

I am currently trying to get to go to 2nd shift and be able to go back to sleep at night. EVERYTHING is stressing me out! Please pray for me...I feel so alone! crying.gif

Dude, please, go to the police, assume there will be no "investigation" into this.  This is assault.  The police can do their own - and actual - investigation.  Seriously, do it.

Uggh! I hate guys like that. I'm so sorry Jeffery.cry I wish I had more lawyer skills so I could help you. God,if I had been there I would have back kicked that guy so hard he would have gone crying to his mom. *hugs* I will be praying for you...and if that ever happens again, I might just think of coming there myself to handle things (sometimes violence is the answer)...

I disagree - violence is never the answer (unless it's a Mama Lisa smack upside the head!!).

My advice (and it's very easy for me to sit here in my happy little world & say this) is to let it go, Jeffrey.  I ABSOLUTELY agree that it was COMPLETELY wrong, but what good is going to come from dragging this out through the police and/or courts?  Just stay away from the jerk, do your job the best you can, and try to get moved to another shift!

That's my opinion!

Thanks, Mama! I have already forgiven him. I'm just afraid that he'll "snap" and do something like that again. I've learned that he's an alcoholic and some of them can be so "pickled" so often that they can & will do ANYTHING on impulse. I'll just keep my distance and try to get that shift change.

But what has me so riled is how my boss is handling it. He acted like as if it was all MY OWN FAULT! Although, I do agree that what I was doing was "juvenille" and "slacking off", it is in NO WAY of deserving a scalding hot cup of coffee thrown into my face! My boss is just so ANAL that he can pass for a HEMORHOID! devilish.gif

Hopefully, I will have a better job opportunity later on down the road. Please keep me in your prayers.
