So, I get up a little late this morning and notice Teddy is aleady gone, which isn't unusally as he leaves early sometimes and lets me sleep. I've been tooling around, checking the site, etc., and decided I wanted to see if I'd left a message on my cell phone that I need. As I opened it, it chirped indicating a message - Teddy had left about 3:30 to take Mammaws to the hospital! He actually ended up calling 911, and the ambulance took her. At first they thought it was her gall bladder, but the x-rays don't indicate that. So now they think her diverticulitis back.
Please pray for a very speedy diagnosis and recovery. And pray for strength for me & Teddy.

We just got back from the hospital. While we were there, an infectious disease doctor came in and explained what is going on with Mammaws. She has pericarditis, which is an inflamation of the pericardium, the fibrous sac around the heart. (An infection caused most likely by a virus.) He said the heart doctor who saw her in the ER said that it was a moderate infection with mild compression. (I think that's what he said.) Anyway, she is on IV antibiotics and they will watch her to make sure the fluid doesn't build up any more. Worse case scenario (which she is no where close to) is minimally invasive surgery where the insert a scope and basically cut a window in the pericardium for the fluid to drain.
Please pray for a speedy recovery!

OK just got home and she went thru the sugery OK. She was still pretty out of it when we got to see her. Thanks for everyones prayers. Hopefully she will recover and nothing else will go wrong with her. Tomas, I'm not really sure what the gall bladder does. Maybe Tim can enlighten us.
The gallbladder is an interesting organ. It rests just above the liver in your abdomen. It is connected to the common bile duct which runs from the liver to the small intestine. The gallbladder is a storage chamber for bile produced by the liver. As you eat foods with high fat contents, the gallbladder contracts, releasing extra bile into the small intestine to aid in the digestion of the fats in the food. Over time, the components of the bile and digestive juices can form "gallstones" and sludge in the gallbladder, which cause inflamation and pain, resulting in the need of the gallbladders removal. Yes, you can live without it. When the gallbladder is removed, the liver is straight lined to the small intestine and a contant supply of bile is released into the small intestine.
Well enough of the anatomy lesson for today. There will be a quiz in the morning.
On the serious side, I am continuing to pray for Mammaws. May she have a speedy recovery.
